About
Background
The intimate partner violence (IPV) research team is financed by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture through the Research Team Support program. Since its inception in 2012, the team is financed in a partner-oriented configuration. Its research activities are therefore carried out in collaboration with communities of practitioners.
Keeping a social analysis of historically unequal mixed gender relationships at the forefront, the team’s work contributes to a better understanding of the experience of victims and perpetrators of intimate partner violence as well as children exposed to it in order to tailor responses to their needs while insuring victims’ safety.
Members
Building on the complementary nature of its members’ expertise, the team has 13 co-researchers associated with five universities and 17 collaborators, of whom 11 are national and international (Canada outside Quebec, United States, France, Brazil). The interdisciplinary makeup of the team (social work, visual arts, animation, sexology, criminology, psychology, penal sociology) allows it to more comprehensively examine intimate partner violence in a way that covers its various dimensions.
The team also brings together 10 communities of practitioners with diverse expertise that is linked to the program’s various themes. Moreover, several of them represent regional or provincial associations, which encourages effective collaboration with many stakeholders and organizations.
